Kapara Coastal Steamer Wreck
Kapara Coastal Steamer Wreck
In 1948 the coastal steamer ran aground on Flinders Island during the years of the second world war while the light house on the Island was blacked out so the enemy would not know the whereabouts of the Island.
Last year with the big winter seas the main boiler which had been in the same sport since the ship was wrecked, was wrenched from it’s resting place by the huge winter seas and lodged amongst other relics on the point off Bryant’s Bay.
Here is another fishing wreck lodged on the western side of the island. Great fun to investigate.

Welcome to Flinders Island Getaways Blog…
Imagine experiencing a complete secluded Island Getaway, located 30 km as the crow flies from Elliston, Eyre Peninsula South Australia.
We will like to tell you about what’s happening on the island season by season.
With the close of crayfish season end of May, we caught 3 last week in one pot! That was crowded! But a gourmet delight. Unfortunately the other pot attracted a wobigong shark which was difficult to say the least to get out and set free.
We have had very successful fishermen over the last few months. Catching tuna, samson fish, nannygai and snapper. Who also stayed on the island enjoy it’s bounty.
